Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have questions about core construction training? Here is a compilation of our most frequently asked questions.

Construction training is a mix of teaching and examination with various different topics. This training aims to give candidates a general knowledge and understanding of the construction topic they are learning, giving them the opportunity to progress onto other higher-level training courses or NVQ’s if the candidate is competent.

Renewals involve the repetition of a full course. If the standard requires the training to be renewed after a specified time, you can apply for a full grant for it, provided that it’s completed within that time period.

Refresher courses update knowledge and understanding in a shorter-duration training course than the original, full-duration training course.

The grant available for refresher training is 50% of the Tier 1, 2, or 3 rates given for the original full-length course.

We will only support refreshers once a full training standard has been developed and is in place.

Commercial Courses can now be taken remotely, allowing candidates to undertake training online by working with their tutor in an online meeting in the same way they would in a classroom setting.

  • You MUST access the course with a Laptop or Computer.

  • Your Laptop/computer must have a camera as you must be clearly visible to the tutor throughout the course. Your device requires a microphone and speakers to enable interaction between you, the tutor and other delegates.

  • A second screen for your Laptop/Computer will be advantageous to access course information (Not Mandatory)

  • Delegates that work for the same organisation can attend the course together, provided the course is accessed by individual laptops or computers.

  • Access to reliable internet is an essential requirement and is the responsibility of each attendee.

  • You will require access to an email address to receive course materials and exercise documentation, not a photocopy or photo (driver's license, passport, CSCS/CPCS Card, etc.). For additional information, select the link for acceptable identification types: photographic ID guidance information

  • Be able to access the online meeting platform “Teams or Zoom” (link to the meeting platform will be provided by the centre).
