Hand Arm Vibration in Construction Course Aims

The aim of this course is to provide knowledge of the hazards and risks associated with the use of equipment in the workplace that produces vibration and to ensure students understand their responsibilities under the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations.

The purpose of this standard is to provide basic awareness for recognising, managing, and mitigating the effects of hand-arm vibration. Hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) is also known as vibration white finger (VWF) and dead finger. It is a secondary form of Raynaud’s syndrome, an industrial injury triggered by the continuous use of vibrating hand-held machinery.
