Who should attend

This course is designed for people who may be subjected to vibration in the workplace which have the potential to cause irreversible health effects, or who needs refresher training on the relevant regulations and is suitable for operatives, supervisors and management.

Delivery

This course can be adapted to suit the client’s requirements, training can be delivered on site using the client’s training room or at a convenient suitable location.
The Hand Arm Vibration Awareness Training is a classroom or remote course with and demonstrations and practical group exercises.

Duration : 3 – 4 Hours

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to provide knowledge of the hazards and risks associated with the use of equipment in the workplace producing vibration, also to ensure they understand their responsibilities under the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations.

Purpose/scope

The purpose of this standard is to provide the basic awareness for recognising, managing, and mitigating the effects of hand-arm vibration.

Hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) is also known as vibration white finger (VWF) and dead finger. It is a secondary form of Raynaud’s syndrome, an industrial injury triggered by continuous use of vibrating hand-held machinery.

The scope of this standard covers:
causes of HAVS
hazards associated with HAVS
symptoms of HAVS
short and long-term effects of HAVS
maximum daily exposure levels associated with HAVS
prevention and reduction strategies for HAVS
monitoring and surveillance strategies for HAVS
responsibilities of workers and managers associated with HAVS
main legislation, codes of practice, and/or standards that apply to HAVS, including safety

If a candidate has been paid grant for a particular course in a lifetime, they will not be eligible for grant again for the same course, unless it has specific refresher standards published on the short duration course register.

If refresher course standards do exist for a particular course, then only one refresher is grant eligible in a lifetime for each candidate.
