Who should attend

This course is designed for people who require training on the safe operational procedures for using Industrial Counterbalance Forklift Trucks, to manoeuvre loads including bulk stacking procedures and maintenance/inspection procedures or requires refresher training on the safe operational practices.


This course can be adapted to suit the client’s requirements on load types and forklift truck size. Training can be delivered on site using the client’s training room or at a convenient suitable location and an industrial forklift truck needs to be made available by the client or site.
This is a classroom-based and onsite practical operation of the forklift truck with demonstrations and individual practical exercises and assessment. Relevant type and size of forklift truck used by operatives must be made available for all practical elements of the course.

Duration: 1 – 3 day (dependent on Skills, Knowledge and Experience)

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to provide knowledge and understanding the importance of carrying out relevant Inspections and maintenance of plant and identify hazards and risks associated through incorrect use, also ensure they understand their responsibilities under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) and Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations and guidance for relevant plant and equipment’s.

On completion of this training, delegates will be able to:
Understand all relevant Regulations
Identify hazards and causes of accidents
Carry out pre-start and operational testing procedures
Maintain Maintenance Logs
Practically operate the industrial counterbalance forklift truck safely

If a candidate has been paid grant for a particular course in a lifetime, they will not be eligible for grant again for the same course, unless it has specific refresher standards published on the short duration course register.

If refresher course standards do exist for a particular course, then only one refresher is grant eligible in a lifetime for each candidate.
