Harness Use and Inspection

This course can be adapted to suit the client’s requirements.
Training can be delivered on site using the client’s training room or at a convenient, suitable location.

Who should attend

Anyone whose work includes operating from a MEWP or working at a height requiring the wearing of a harness will benefit from this course. We also recommend personnel who supervise or manage these activities also attend the course.

Delivery

This is a classroom-based course with practical group participation.

Harness Course Aims

The aim of this course is to enhance awareness and knowledge of the importance of working with harnesses and be able to identify medical and rescue procedures associated with a harness.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this training, delegates will be able to:
Understand your responsibilities in relation to current legislation
Be aware of inspection and maintenance procedures
Be able to identify harness defects
Carry out reporting procedures
Be able to don and adjust harnesses correctly

Harness Course Content

Below is a brief overview of the content of the training:
Legislation, standards and guidance
Selecting correct equipment and restraint systems to help prevent falls from height
Lanyard anchor points and systems
Inspections of equipment to ensure they are fit for purpose
Confidently select and don a harness correctly
Correct storage of equipment
Group exercise in donning harness
Theory test

If a candidate has been paid grant for a particular course in a lifetime, they will not be eligible for grant again for the same course, unless it has specific refresher standards published on the short duration course register.

If refresher course standards do exist for a particular course, then only one refresher is grant eligible in a lifetime for each candidate.
