Ladder / Step Ladder Awareness

The purpose of the ladder and stepladder training course is to provide the candidates with information on the safe selection, use, maintenance and storage of ladders (including extending ladders) and stepladders, this includes information on alternative working at height methods and equipment, ladder anchors and harness systems.
This course can be adapted to suit the client’s requirements.
Training can be delivered on site using the client’s training room or at a convenient, suitable location and can be an awareness course (no practical) or include practical application.
Please specify if practical assessment is required when booking. If practical is required, the client will need to provide equipment when delivered at their location.

Who should attend

This course is designed for people who may be required to select, use, issue and store ladders and step ladders as part of workplace activities or who needs familiarisation or refresher skills with the relevant regulations.

Delivery

This is a mixture of a classroom-based course, demonstrations and practical use and maintenance of ladder systems common within your industry.

If practical assessment is required, delegates should bring their own PPE and include suitable head protection, work gloves, hi vis vest and safety footwear.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to provide knowledge of the hazards and risks associated with workplace activities when using ladder systems and provide delegates with a good understanding of selecting appropriate ladder systems, inspection procedures including safe working practices in accordance with current legislation.

On completion of this training, delegates will be able to understand:
Legislation and Regulations affecting Work at Height
INDG455 Safe use of ladders and stepladders
Schedule 6 of the Work at Height Regulations
Classifications for ladders and step ladders in the workplace
Hazards associated with the use of Ladders and Step Ladders
Pre-use Ladder and Step Ladder Inspection
Correct Storage and Transport of Ladders

We are part of the CITB’s automated grant payments system, making it easier for employers to book courses with us for their workers and be reimbursed for it.

If a candidate has been paid grant for a particular course in a lifetime, they will not be eligible for grant again for the same course, unless it has specific refresher standards published on the short duration course register.

If refresher course standards do exist for a particular course, then only one refresher is grant eligible in a lifetime for each candidate.
