About Tool Hire Product Awareness Training

This course can be adapted to suit the client’s requirements. Training can be delivered on site using the client’s training room or at a convenient, suitable location and can be an awareness course (no practical) or include practical application. Please specify if practical assessment is required when booking.

Who should attend

This course is designed for people who may be required to select, use or maintain small power tools and equipment as part of workplace activities or who needs familiarisation or refresher skills with the relevant regulations and practical application of skills when using power tools and equipment.

Delivery

This is a classroom-based course with demonstrations and practical group exercises.

Client to specify and provide types of equipment used with the organisation to ensure this will meet their specific needs, if practical application/assessment is requested a suitable area for the practical element of the training at the client’s premises is to be provided for using the equipment and materials for practicing the use of the selected hand-held power tools (blocks, bricks, paving slabs, kerbs, steel or pipes etc.)

Attendees carrying out practical use of hand-held power tools are required to bring appropriate PPE/RPE which should include: Hard hat, Goggles (BS EN 166B rated), Hi vis vest, Safety boots, Gloves, Dust mask (FFP3 rated), Hearing Protection (minimum rated – SNR 29 dB(A)).

Duration : 3 – 4 Hours

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to provide knowledge of the hazards and risks associated with the use of hand-held tools and equipment from hire companies and company owned tools including how to control them and provide delegates with a good understanding of selecting appropriate PPE/RPE for work activities taking place.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this training, delegates will be able to:

Understanding the relevant health and safety legislation

Hire companies legal and moral responsibilities

Select, use and maintain appropriate PPE/RPE for work activities.

Select, use and maintain appropriate hand-held tools and equipment.

Identify hazards associated with the use of hand-held tools

Apply the hierarchy of control (ERIC PD)

Assess and control the risks when using hand-held tools and equipment

Confirm knowledge gained through questioning
