Dry lining is a construction method used to create internal walls, partitions, and ceilings using plasterboard and metal or timber framing systems. It is widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to form internal layouts, provide fire and acoustic protection, and create smooth surfaces ready for finishing.

Dry lining systems are faster to install than traditional wet plastering and are a core trade within the fitted interiors sector.

The NVQ Level 2 in Dry Lining (Interior Systems) covers a range of systems commonly used on construction sites, including:

  • Metal stud partition systems
  • Timber stud partitions
  • Plasterboard linings to walls and ceilings
  • Suspended ceiling systems
  • Fire-rated and acoustic partitions
  • Shaft wall and encasement systems
  • Fixing boards using mechanical fixings or adhesive (dot and dab)
  • Insulated dry lining systems

The qualification reflects real site-based tasks and focuses on the systems you install as part of your everyday work.

Interior systems, including dry lining, are used to:

  • Create internal walls and room layouts
