"SMSTS-R" means the Site Management Safety Training Scheme Refresher course, which is a renewal training programme for site managers and supervisors in the construction industry in the UK.
The SMSTS-R is a two-day refresher course for site managers and supervisors who have previously completed the full SMSTS course. The course is designed to update candidates on changes to legislation and best practices in construction site safety.
If you hold a valid SMSTS certificate and your certificate is due to expire, you will need to take the SMSTS-R course to renew your certification. It is recommended that you take the course within six months of your certificate's expiration date.
The SMSTS and refresher certificate are valid for five years. After that, you will need to take the SMSTS-R course to renew your certification. You can take the SMSTS-R course as many times as you need to renew your certification.
The SMSTS-R course covers topics such as changes to legislation, best practices in health and safety, risk assessments and method statements, and site management and leadership.
The SMSTS-R course is assessed through a written and multiple-choice exam paper.
The pass mark for the SMSTS-R course is 81%. Candidates who achieve a score of 81% or higher will receive a CITB certificate of achievement.
The SMSTS-R certificate is valid for five years. After five years, candidates will need to complete the SMSTS Refresher course to renew their certificate.
Yes, the SMSTS-R course can be delivered online, but it must be delivered by an accredited training provider who has been approved by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
No, you must have attended a previous 5-day SMSTS course or a subsequent 2-day refresher course to be eligible to attend a 2-day refresher course, and you must have valid certification of previous attendance.
All course material will be provided when you have been successfully booked on the course; this will include the CITB GE700 Construction Site Safety: The Comprehensive Guide, which is included in the course cost.
The Health and Safety in Construction Site Management refresher course is eligible for a Tier 3 Refresher Grant that can be claimed for the same candidate multiple times over a candidates lifetime and has no maximum number of claims.
