Handheld Disc Cutter Safety in Construction

Course Information

This course is designed for people who may be required to select and mount an abrasive or diamond wheel for use with a petrol-driven cut-off saw (PDCOS) or battery- or electrically powered equipment such as grinders and associated abrasive wheel categories in the workplace, or who need familiarisation or refresher skills with the relevant regulations and practical application of skills in the use of abrasive wheels.

This is a classroom-based course with demonstrations and practical group exercises.

Client to specify and provide types of equipment and cutting/grinding wheels used were possible to ensure this will meet their specific needs. If practical application/assessment is requested a suitable area for the practical element of the training at the client’s premises is to be provided for using the equipment and materials for practicing the use of the abrasive wheels (blocks, bricks, paving slabs, kerbs, steel components, etc.)
Course Requirements
Delegates must have successfully completed training to the Abrasive wheels theory standard (GET3098 or Refresher GET100) within the last 12 months, failure to have completed the Abrasive Wheels Theory Training within this period CITB Grant Claims will not be accepted by CITB for this course.

The aim of this course is to provide knowledge of the hazards and risks associated with the use of abrasive wheels and ensure they understand their responsibilities under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) in the safe mounting of abrasive wheels and discs on portable machinery and applying the skills to operate the equipment safely.

Yes, Workforce Skills Support has a limit amount of equipment that can be used for any training that we deliver, this includes Stihl petrol cut off saws, 5" Grinder and 9" Grinder all suplied with Diamond Cutting Blades, also water suppression bottles and 110v transformer. Any other variant in make equipment or types of equipment such as bench grinders, mitre or circular saws, we would request that the client provides these on the day of training.
