Our assessor schedules the appointments with the candidate at times that work for both parties.
Since the Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations - Planning Lifts are candidate-led, they can be completed swiftly once the majority of the evidence has been acquired for the proposed evidence list, a copy of which we've provided. After the evidence is gathered (by email), the Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations - Planning Lifts can be completed quickly in two to three sessions, lasting a few hours each, as long as the candidate can set aside time for the professional follow-up discussion to go over all of the given evidence.
The follow-up professional discussion can be completed face-to-face or remotely.
1st visit – Induction, planning
2nd visit – discuss evidences, identify shortfall of evidences
3rd – visit – Discuss new evidences, cover shortfall in questions (if required) - completed

The Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations – Planning Lifts (also referred to as the Appointed Person qualification) is a vocational qualification that assesses your competence in planning and controlling lifting operations on construction sites. It confirms your ability to prepare and manage lifting activities using cranes and lifting equipment to nationally recognised occupational standards.
This qualification is designed for trained lifting operations professionals who act as the Appointed Person — responsible for planning, organising and overseeing lifting work on site. It is suitable for those seeking to enhance their career in lifting operations management and those who need formal recognition of their competence for legislative and industry requirements.

There are no formal academic entry requirements for this NVQ. You should be working in a role where you are planning and controlling lifting operations and have access to workplace activities so you can gather evidence of your competence. Prior experience in lifting operations and relevant training (such as appointed person training) is strongly recommended.
Assessment for this qualification is workplace‑based. A qualified assessor will observe your performance as you plan, organise and control lifting operations in your normal job environment. You will provide a portfolio of evidence — including lift plans, risk assessments, method statements, records of equipment selection and deployment, and professional discussions — to demonstrate competence against the mandatory units.
Yes — on successful completion of this NVQ you can be eligible to apply for a CPCS Blue Competent Operator card or NPORS Blue Competent Operator card as an appointed person (lift planner), provided you also meet any additional card requirements (e.g., approved training and relevant health & safety tests). Employers often require this qualification as part of the route to achieving the blue competence card for crane lifting planning.
