The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (Carpentry & Joinery) is a vocational qualification for experienced carpenters and joiners. It formally recognises advanced practical competence in a range of wood trades including site carpentry, architectural joinery, wheelwrighting, shopfitting (both site and bench), structural post and beam carpentry, and timber frame erection — all assessed in real workplace settings.
This NVQ is designed for individuals working in wood occupations who are already performing at an advanced level and want formal recognition of their skills and competence. It suits carpenters, joiners, and wood trades professionals working in areas such as site carpentry, bespoke joinery, structural framing, shopfitting, or wheelwrighting.
The NVQ cost can vary. Please see our payment options.
There are no formal academic entry requirements. Candidates should be employed in a relevant carpentry and joinery role or a related wood occupation and have sufficient experience so they can gather real workplace evidence of competence for assessment. Completion of a Level 2 NVQ or equivalent experience is typical before progressing to Level 3.
Assessment is workplace‑based and evidence‑driven. A qualified assessor will observe you in your normal job, review your portfolio of evidence (such as photographs, job records, and witness testimonies), and hold professional discussions to confirm your competence across the units relevant to your chosen pathway. There are no formal exams; assessment is based on real work activities.
