To provide thorough practical and theory training in carrying out Lorry Loader / Securer with various items of plant machinery under STGO legislation (Special Types General Order 2003), to enable the candidate to competently and safely fulfil the role and pass the relevant CPCS Theory and Practical Tests.

CPCS Lorry Loader / Securer STGO Course Content

To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a loader/securer

Name and explain types of transporter, purpose, principal components, the basic construction, controls and terminology

Conform with manufacturer’s requirements as per the operator’s handbook, other types of information source and relevant regulations and legislation

Undertake all pre-use checks on the transporter and prime mover

Configure and set for site and public highway travel, loaded and unloaded

Prepare the area for loading and unloading duties

Explain actions required for hazards, underground and overhead services

Arrange, use and comply with communication procedures

Load or direct and position different items of plant on and off a trailer

Arrange, secure and ready items of plant on the trailer in preparation for travel on the public highway

Explain STGO legislative requirements for transporting loads on the highway

Explain considerations when planning a route on the public highway

State requirements to be undertaken when loading and unloading on the public highway

Carry out shut down and securing procedures

Explain the Road Traffic Act requirements

What is the CPCS A50 Lorry Loader / Securer STGO test?

CPCS A50 Lorry Loader theoretical and practical tests are a way to prove competence onsite to provide evidence of a candidate's knowledge, experience and practical skills. These tests can be taken by an experienced individual on the Lorry Loader or by someone who is new to the plant all together following training on the Lorry Loader.

Can I renew my CPCS A50 Lorry Loader red card?

No, unfortunately you can't renew your CPCS A50 Lorry Loader red card. Holders of the red card are required to complete the relevant NVQ within 2 years of achieving it. If the NVQ is not achieved within the required timeframe you can extend the card with proof of registration on the NVQ. See below FAQ for the correct NVQ that you will need to complete.

If your CPCS A50 Lorry Loader red card expired more than 2 years ago you still need to complete the relevant NVQ but additional CPCS theory and practical tests will be required to upgrade the card.

How do I upgrade my red A50 Lorry Loader CPCS to blue?

To upgrade the Red CPCS A50 Lorry Loader Trained Operator Card you will have to achieve, within 2 years, the relevant NVQ

Is a CPCS A50 Lorry Loader red card better than an Npors Lorry Loader card?
NPORS Lorry Loader CSCS Affiliated cards and CPCS A50 Lorry Loader cards are both CSCS recognised partner plant card schemes that should be equally recognised onsite. NPORS traditional is not recommended by CSCS and this is often a misunderstanding on site that NPORS are a lesser card scheme but where they carry the CSCS logo they are equally recognised by CITB and CSCS.
