The Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations – Supervising Lifts is a vocational qualification designed for individuals who supervise the control of lifting operations on construction sites. This includes overseeing the safe use of cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment and ensuring team members carry out lifting tasks safely and efficiently in real workplace settings.
This NVQ is for experienced construction workers who already supervise lifting operations — often known as lifting operations supervisors or crane supervisors — and want formal recognition of their competence to lead, monitor and control lifting work.
The NVQ cost can vary. Please see our payment options.
There are no formal academic entry requirements. Candidates must be currently working in a role where they supervise or control lifting operations — with access to their normal workplace activities to gather evidence of competence as part of the assessment. Relevant work experience and appropriate prior training (such as health and safety testing) are typically expected.
Assessment is workplace‑based and evidence‑driven. A qualified assessor will observe you supervising lifting operations, review your portfolio of evidence, and hold professional discussions to confirm your competence against mandatory units such as supervising lifting operations, coordinating work control procedures, and maintaining health and safety systems. Assessment takes place through real job tasks in your workplace.
