Visual inspection involves inspecting the plant or equipment for signs of wear and tear, damage, or any other visible defects. This type of inspection is usually done using the naked eye, with the help of a flashlight, magnifying glass, or other equipment as required.

Functional tests are carried out to ensure that the plant or equipment is performing its intended function correctly. These tests can be simple, such as turning a switch on and off, or complex, such as running a load test on a generator.
