You can check CSCS cards and partner card schemes electronically to verify the card. This is the quickest and most straightforward method of confirming cards from all 38 CSCS Alliance schemes, which is accessible via CSCSSmartCheck.co.uk, or available as a mobile app.

To use the CSCS smart check you will need to know the card scheme – CSCS or one of the 38 CSCS Alliance schemes that should be clear on the physical card you are checking, the registration number from the card and surname to complete the search.

To identify cards that have been obtained fraudulently, visual checks are insufficient. Site managers and employers should use CSCS Smart Check to electronically verify cards on a regular basis to make sure they are current, authentic, and that the holder possesses the qualifications and credentials needed for their job.

You can easily renew your CSCS card by creating an account and signing into your CSCS Online account when it expires.

The earliest CSCS cards can be renewed is six months before and up to six months after the card's stated expiration date.

Professionally Qualified Person (PQP), Academically Qualified Person (AQP), and provisional cards cannot be renewed. Holders of AQP and PQP cards must apply for a new card instead of renewing their current one when their current card expires.

If you have changed occupations after your current card was issued, you must notify CSCS.

Upon expiry, the following cards must be applied for as new applications:

Labourer Cards

There are several approved routes to obtain a Labourer card, ranging from lifetime qualifications to training courses that require renewal every 3–5 years. The number of renewal conditions adds significant complexity to the application process. Therefore, all Labourer card applications must now be submitted as new applications. Applicants are required to provide a copy of their qualification or training course certificate as part of the new card application.

Academically Qualified Person Cards

CSCS has implemented a new process whereby the qualification title (e.g. degree, HND, HNC) is printed on the reverse of the card—for instance, “Quantity Surveying Degree” will appear.

Each time you apply for a card, CSCS will need a copy of your qualification certificate, as the qualification title shown on the certificate must exactly match the title printed on the card.

Professionally Qualified Person Cards

All applications for Professionally Qualified Person (PQP) cards must be made as new applications. Previously, PQP cards displayed only the name of the Professional Body. Now, they also show the applicant’s membership level. To record this information, applicants must submit a copy of their supporting evidence as part of the new application.
