Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have questions about this NPORS card? Here is a compilation of our most frequently asked questions.

There are now 2 options available to operators for the NPORS cards.

NPORS (Traditional) Operator Card

This is either a 3-year or 5-year card specific to the category, which can be renewed on completing the NPORS renewal form.

NPORS/CSCS Affiliated Construction Plant Operator Card

There are two types of NPORS/CSCS cards: an initial Red Card ( trained Operator) gives the operator 2 years to complete their NVQ for the relevant units of the plant. Upon completion of the NVQ, the operator will progress to the 5-year Blue Competent operator card.

Candidates must have passed the Operative CITB health, safety & environment test within the last 2 years. This can be checked via the CSCS card Checker online.

If a candidate does not require an NPORS CSCS card or Affiliated operators card, then on completion of the NPORS testing, they can apply for a traditional NPORS card without having an in-date Operative CITB health, safety & environment test.

Validity: The Blue Competent Operator Card is valid for 5 years

Renewable: The Blue Competent Operator Card can be renewed. To do this, candidates need to meet the following criteria:.

An operator can renew their NPORS card in one of two ways: An employer signs a renewal notification form. This signature is to verify that the operator has maintained a good standard in the category and has been accident-free during their employment, or refresher training is to be completed for each group of categories. For CSCS Affiliated Cards, operators must have passed the Operative CITB Health, Safety, & Environment Test within the last 2 years.

Candidates must be profiled by an approved NPORS training provider to ensure they are suitable for the chosen route. Depending on the outcome, the candidate will be recommended for an experience worker test or a novice course, which will conclude with training and/or testing.

The simple answer is that none are any better than the others; however, some are more suited to the work you are doing and the various sites' requirements. Operators should speak to their employers, site managers, etc. to establish their preferences.

NPORS has introduced an online NPORS Card Checker. Any person who has your specific details can obtain information on the card and all categories listed.
