DRHS - Health and Safety for Construction Directors – SSP

Course Information

The Directors Role in Health & Health Safety is a one-day interactive course aimed at Directors & Senior Managers who are actively involved with strategic management in their organisation in the built environment and is focused on health and safety strategic roles in the built environment to identify the director's duties of care and outline implications of non-compliance with current health and safety legislation.

The DRHS course is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all senior managers (as specified above) and company directors.
Entry Requirements
To attend this course delegates must demonstrate the following:

Either previously completed a CITB Directors Role for Health and Safety Course, OR working knowledge of health and safety legislation with the requirements that the course content and end of course assessment as learners will be required to understand this legislation in context with the directors role and responsibility.

In-house classroom  - a dedicated course dedicated for the employer for a group of their employees to attend at their preferred location (per person charge)

Remote open course – individuals booked on our open course schedule

Remote closed course – a dedicated course dedicated for the employer for a group of their employees to attend the same dates (per person charge)

What are the requirements?

CITB Courses can now be taken remotely allowing for candidates to undertake training online by working with their tutor in an online meeting in the same way they would in a classroom setting. CITB has also introduced remote courses where candidates can take training courses on their own using online resources.

  • Laptop or Computer – With camera function as you must be clearly visible to the tutor throughout the course

  • Your device requires a microphone and speakers to enable interaction between you, the tutor and other delegates

  • Access to reliable internet is an essential requirement and is the responsibility of each attendee

  • Email address and access to receive course materials and exam

  • Photographic ID – Drivers license/Passport etc.

  • Be able to access “Zoom Cloud Meetings” or "Microsoft Teams" (link to the meeting will be provided by the centre)

  • You must complete and return the delegate information form prior to course attendance

  • Electronic CITB mandatory publications will be emailed prior to the course. Hardcopies maybe available upon request (please enquire at the booking stage)

Directors Role for Health and Safety Course Aims

This course will summarise how to promote a positive health and safety culture within the organisation. Group exercises throughout the course will allow learners to discuss their thoughts about health and safety responsibilities and outline the requirements of the HSE guidance HSG65, Managing for Health and Safety (Plan, Do, Check, Act).

  • Recognise purpose of health and safety legislation and the different requirements that must be followed to ensure this is achieved

  • Recognise how to implement a health and safety plan including the key actions for leaders, managers and the involvement of workers in an organisation
  • Understand how to monitor health and safety arrangements and measure its performance in an organisation

This course is designed for directors and senior management who are actively involved with strategic management in their organisations within the built environment of any size in construction, civil engineering, or allied trades and therefore should be considered before enrolling. Examples of relevant roles (not exhaustive) are:

To attend this course, delegates must demonstrate the following:

Either previously completed a CITB Directors Role for Health and Safety Course, OR working knowledge of the following health and safety legislation with the requirements that the course content and end-of-course assessment will require learners to understand this legislation in context with the directors role and responsibility:

  • Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974
  • Employers Liability (compulsory Insurance) Act 1969
  • Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) 2015
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

CITB recommends participating in the interactive course before your DRHS course; it takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete, but you don’t have to do it all at once. You can close the eLearning at any time and, on your return, pick up where you left off. Your progress will be saved automatically. We recommend that you take the course in 30-minute chunks.

The certification from this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified, candidates will need to retake the course before the expiration date.

The Health and Safety for Construction Directors course is eligible for a Tier 1 Grant claim, this grant can only be claimed once per candidate, per lifetime and the grant does not renew.
