CITB Grant Cuts – Major changes are coming to CITB grant funding in September 2025 — and if you don’t act now, it could cost your business hundreds of pounds per person.
From September 2025, CITB will reduce the grant amount for certain Level 2 Awards from £600 down to just £240 per person. For employers currently benefiting from the full grant, this change means you’ll lose up to £360 per candidate trained — a significant blow to training budgets.
At present, the £600 CITB grant often covers the full cost of training and can even leave a £300 surplus per person.

Courses Affected by the CITB Grant Cuts Change
Below are two of the most popular Level 2 Awards that will be impacted by the CITB Grant cuts. The good news? There is still time to lock in the higher level grant if booked before 1st September deadline. If existing training is already in place, transitioning to a regulated qualification provides formal recognition, enhanced credibility, and the option to dual certificate with comparable accredited standards.
Dual Certification: Detection of Buried Utilities (CITB Standard)
This course is ideal for operatives who need to locate buried utilities safely using electromagnetic location tools (Cat & Genny). It can be dual certified with the CITB Standard: Detection of Buried Utilities for Construction Using Electromagnetic Location, enhancing its value and application across a broader range of worksites.
Why Add This to Existing EUSR or NRSWA Certificates?
While EUSR and NRSWA provide basic compliance, this course delivers enhanced practical competence across all construction environments, not just highways or utilities.
Key Benefits
Dual Certification: UKATA Cat A or IATP Cat A
This course can be dual certified with either UKATA Cat A or IATP Cat A Asbestos Awareness — with no additional time required.
Why Add This to Your Existing Training Program?
While standalone UKATA/IATP courses attract a £60 grant, the Level 2 Award version qualifies for the full £600 CITB grant — without any extra training time.
Key Benefits
Q: Who makes the grant claim?
A: We do. As an approved CITB ATO, we automatically submit grant claims for eligible courses.
Q: When is the grant paid?
A: Typically within 4 weeks of the claim. Delays may occur if you’re not up to date on levy payments or returns (your last levy return was due in June 2024).
To receive the full £600 CITB grant, your training must be completed before the September 2025 deadline. After that, you’ll receive just £240 for the same qualifications.
Delay = Paying out of pocket.
