Please note: There is a cap on how many times an employer can claim a short-duration course achievement grant. Check the CITB website for information on the number of claims allowed based on your last levy return.

If a candidate has been granted a grant for a particular course in their lifetime, they will not be eligible for grant again for the same course unless it has specific refresher standards published on the short-duration course register.

If refresher course standards do exist for a particular course, then only one refresher course is eligible in a lifetime for each candidate.

Participants should have a basic understanding of lifting operations and some experience in a supervisory or managerial role. A valid CITB Health, Safety, and Environment test (for managers and professionals) passed within the last two years is also required.
The course consists of classroom-based learning, practical exercises, and a final assessment. Participants will engage in interactive discussions, case studies, and hands-on planning activities.
Assessment involves a combination of a written theory test and a practical test. Participants must demonstrate their understanding of lifting operation planning and their ability to produce a safe lifting plan. This is a 4-5 day course dependant on location.
Completing the CPCS A61 Appointed Person course enhances your qualifications, improves your understanding of lifting operations, and increases your employability in construction and related industries. It also positions you for roles with greater responsibility and higher earning potential.

In order to obtain the necessary Red CPCS Trained Operator Card, candidates must pass both the CSCS touch screen H+S test for managers & professionals (within the last 2 years) and the CPCS Theory Test in addition to the Practical Test.

To upgrade the Red CPCS Trained Operator Card, you will have to achieve, within 2 years, the relevant NVQ.
