Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Strategic Health & Safety Management for Senior H&S Leaders

Health and safety leadership has never been under greater scrutiny with increasing regulatory expectations.

The introduction of the Building Safety Act, and a growing emphasis on organisational competence, construction businesses now need experienced professionals who can demonstrate not just knowledge, but proven strategic competence. The Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Strategic Health & Safety Leadership & Management provides exactly that.

Designed for experienced senior professionals already operating in strategic health and safety roles, this nationally recognised qualification allows candidates to achieve a Level 7 qualification by evidencing the competence they demonstrate every day in the workplace.

Who Is The Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Strategic Health & Safety Leadership & Management Qualification For?

This qualification is ideal for experienced professionals responsible for leading health and safety strategy across an organisation, including:

  • Health & Safety Directors
  • Head of Health & Safety
  • Group Health & Safety Managers
  • Senior HSE Managers
  • SHEQ Directors
  • Risk Managers
  • Health & Safety Consultants
  • Compliance Directors
  • Senior Construction Managers with strategic H&S responsibilities

Rather than teaching someone how to do the job, the qualification recognises and assesses the competence they already possess, in line with existing company policies and procedures. Our Assessors will support, if required, to work with clients to implement further systems.

Why Strategic Health & Safety Leadership Matters

Modern organisations expect their senior leaders to do far more than ensure legal compliance. Today’s strategic H&S professionals are expected to:

  • Develop organisational health and safety strategies
  • Influence board-level decision making
  • Lead organisational culture change
  • Manage corporate risk
  • Develop governance frameworks
  • Monitor organisational performance
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance
  • Drive continual improvement

This qualification demonstrates those capabilities through workplace evidence.

A Competence-Based Qualification – Not Classroom Learning

Unlike traditional academic qualifications, this is an NVQ, meaning there are:

  • No classroom attendance
  • No written examinations
  • No revision
  • No assignments completed outside of normal work

Candidates are assessed against what they already do within their role. Our assessor works alongside the candidate to gather evidence and demonstrate competence against the qualification standards.

Flexible Assessment Around Your Work

The qualification is designed to fit around busy senior professionals. Appointments are arranged at times convenient to both the assessor and candidate.

Typical process:

Stage 1 – Induction & Planning

  • Initial meeting
  • Review of current role
  • Evidence planning
  • Assessment strategy agreed

Stage 2 – Evidence Review

  • Discussion around submitted evidence
  • Mapping against qualification requirements
  • Identification of any evidence gaps

Stage 3 – Professional Discussion

  • Review of any additional evidence
  • Professional discussion
  • Completion of any remaining assessment criteria
  • Qualification achieved

Professional discussions can be completed:

  • Remotely
  • Face-to-face

Because this is a candidate-led qualification, experienced professionals often complete it quickly once the required evidence has been gathered.

Evidence Can Include

Examples of evidence may include:

  • Health & Safety / Enviromental policies
  • Strategic plans
  • Board reports
  • Risk management documentation
  • Audit reports
  • Management review minutes
  • Investigation reports
  • Improvement plans
  • Performance data
  • Leadership communications
  • Compliance documentation
  • Competency records
  • Manufacturers Data

Our assessor will guide candidates throughout the process.

CSCS Manager Card Eligibility

Successfully achieving the qualification supports eligibility for the Manager CSCS Card in the occupation:

Senior Construction Health & Safety Manager

Applicants will also need to have passed the CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety & Environment Test within the previous two years before applying for the card.

This provides recognised evidence of both competence and professional standing within the construction industry.

Supporting Competence Under the Building Safety Act

The construction industry is increasingly focused on demonstrating organisational competence.

Clients, principal contractors and regulators are placing greater emphasis on the competence of those responsible for health and safety leadership.

This qualification provides recognised evidence that senior professionals can:

  • Lead organisational health and safety strategy
  • Influence governance and culture
  • Manage corporate risk effectively
  • Support legal compliance
  • Demonstrate professional competence

For organisations working on higher-risk buildings or delivering complex construction projects, having appropriately qualified strategic health and safety leaders can strengthen competence frameworks and provide reassurance to clients.
