Who should attend ?

The NPORS Plant Mover N132 course is designed for operators who will not be required to use plant machinery to its full operational capacity. This training focusses on the movement of plant machinery for non-operational duties, such as those performed by plant mechanics and plant machinery delivery drivers. These operators are responsible for moving machinery within the workplace, whether for maintenance and repair purposes or for delivery and collection tasks.

Learning Outcomes

Here is a brief overview of the content of training.
  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
  • Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used
  • Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
  • Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for plant mover use
  • Prepare machinery for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
  • Environmental considerations
  • Storage and transport of machinery attachments
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

If a candidate has been granted a grant for a particular course in their lifetime, they will not be eligible for grant again for the same course unless it has specific refresher standards published on the short-duration course register.

If refresher course standards do exist for a particular course, then only one refresher course is eligible in a lifetime for each candidate.

This highly interactive practical and classroom-based training course concludes with practical assessment and theory tests, demonstrating the candidate’s full understanding of the training.
Novice Operator: 2 Days, maximum of candidates 18

Experienced Operator: 1 Day test only, maximum of 24 candidates

Location: Nationwide Delivery on-site
The assessment typically involves a combination of a written test and a practical demonstration. Candidates must demonstrate their understanding of the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to safely move plant machinery.
There are no formal prerequisites, but it is beneficial for candidates to have some prior experience or knowledge of plant operations. Basic understanding of health and safety regulations is also advantageous.
Candidates should bring appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety boots, a high-visibility vest, and a hard hat.

For entrants that wish to apply for the NPORS Traditional Card, there is no requirement to do an NVQ qualification. If the ‘HS&E TESTED Logo’ is required on the card, entrants must ensure they have attended and passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment Test within the two years prior to application for the card and will have to achieve, within 2 year, the relevant NVQ.
