The NPORS N132 Plant Mover course is designed to provide candidates with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate plant machinery for the purpose of moving it on-site. It covers the principles of plant movement, safety measures, and legal requirements.

Learning Outcomes

Here is a brief overview of the content of training.
  • Have a basic understanding of the industry and the relevant legislation, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a vehicle / plant machinery marshal
  • Have knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular vehicle / machine to be guided
  • Have a good understanding of signs and signals, approved hand signals and different forms of communication
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for vehicle / plant machinery marshal
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area including stop blocks and tipping areas
  • Set up exclusion zone for loading / unloading
  • Guide machinery in a forward and reverse direction including confined spaces and “blind areas” safely and efficiently
  • Environmental considerations
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down and parking procedures

Please note: There is a cap on how many times an employer can claim a short-duration course achievement grant. Check the CITB website for information on the number of claims allowed based on your last levy return.

If a candidate has been granted a grant for a particular course in their lifetime, they will not be eligible for grant again for the same course unless it has specific refresher standards published on the short-duration course register.

If refresher course standards do exist for a particular course, then only one refresher course is eligible in a lifetime for each candidate.

This highly interactive practical and classroom-based training course concludes with practical assessment and theory tests, demonstrating the candidate’s full understanding of the training.
Novice Operator: 1 Day, maximum of 3 candidates

Experienced Operator: 1 Day test only, maximum of 6 candidates

Location: Nationwide Delivery on-site
There are no formal prerequisites, but it is beneficial for candidates to have some prior experience or knowledge of plant operations. A basic understanding of health and safety regulations is also advantageous.
Candidates should bring appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety boots, a high-visibility vest, and a hard hat.
NPORS certification is recognised by employers across the UK and demonstrates a high standard of training and competence. It can enhance employment opportunities and ensure compliance with industry safety standards.

For entrants that wish to apply for the NPORS Traditional Card, there is no requirement to have an NVQ qualification. If the ‘HS&E TESTED Logo’ is required on the card, entrants must ensure they have attended and passed the CITB Operatives Health, Safety, and Environment Test within the two years prior to application for the card and will have to achieve, within 2 years, the relevant NVQ.
