Learning Outcomes

Here is a brief overview of the content of training.
  • To provide thorough practical and theory training in operating an Industrial Forklift Truck, and to enable the candidate to competently and safely carry out the role and pass the CPCS Theory and Practical Tests.
  • Conform with manufacturers requirements as per the operators handbook, other types of information source and relevant regulations and legislation
  • Undertake all pre-use plant checks
  • Explain need and function of appropriate documentation
  • Configure and ready for travel
  • Travel to and Manoeuvre in confined spaces (with and without loads)
  • Configure and set for lifting and transferring duties
  • Explain actions required for hazards, underground and overhead services
  • Lift and remove various loads using the full working height of the forklift
  • Transfer and place loads accurately at given locations
  • Place and remove loads from a vehicle
  • Maintain safe working situations
  • Maintain safe and tidy working areas
  • Carry out shut down and securing procedures
  • Explain the loading and unloading procedures for machine transporting

We are part of the CITB’s automated grant payments system, making it easier for employers to book courses with us for their workers and be reimbursed for it.

Please note: There is a cap on how many times an employer can claim a short-duration course achievement grant. Check the CITB website for information on the number of claims allowed based on your last levy return.

If a candidate has been granted a grant for a particular course in their lifetime, they will not be eligible for grant again for the same course unless it has specific refresher standards published on the short-duration course register.

If refresher course standards do exist for a particular course, then only one refresher course is eligible in a lifetime for each candidate.

The curriculum includes theoretical instruction on health and safety regulations, machine components and functions, and practical training on operating the forklift truck, including load handling, manoeuvring, and maintenance.
Participants should bring personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety boots, high-visibility clothing, and a hard hat.

To achieve the CPCS Red CPCS Trained Operator Card, candidates must pass both the CSCS touch screen H+S test (within the last 2 years) and the CPCS Theory Test and the Practical Test.
