The CITB released new plant training standards and grants for eight plant types on July 31, 2023, after reviewing the existing plant grants.
Industry working groups comprising employers, providers, and federations collaborated to produce the training standards. The lengths and ratios of the training courses have been adjusted and improved to better conform to the updated standards following additional cooperation and consultation.

The new durations are determined by the learner: trainer:machine ratio, or the number of learners, trainers, and machines in a course.
To eliminate any uncertainty regarding the overall duration of training and testing, the durations now include assessment time (both theory and practical), which was previously excluded.
Additionally, the novice criteria now say: "How the duration is organised is at the discretion of the training provider."
The purpose of the "experienced" plant grant rate is to support those who need some training prior to taking a test. To be eligible for the grant, experienced training must cover every elements of the experienced training standard.
The higher "novice" grant rate is for employers who are putting employees through plant training who have never had experienced in the type of plant machinery they are being trained in. This will assist in meeting the industry's demand for more individuals to become proficient and highly competent plant operators.
Eight of the most commonly used plant categories are impacted by the new plant standards. To be grant eligible, these eight categories' training and testing has to:
In order for the Approved Training Organisation (ATO) to apply for the grant on your behalf, you must use them and give them your CITB registration number.
For plant training categories not covered by the new standards, they are still eligible for grant through the CITB Short Course Grant.
