You will learn all you need about the Level 2 Award in this Asbestos Awareness course guide.

What is the Proqual Level 2 Award in Asbestos Awareness course?

The Level 2 Award in Asbestos Awareness is a nationally recognised qualification delivered through the awarding body Proqual and provides learners with an understanding of asbestos, its properties, the risks associated with exposure, and how to work safely with asbestos-containing materials.

Who is this Asbestos Awareness course for?

The Level 2 Award in Asbestos Awareness is suitable for anyone who works in a role where they may come into contact with asbestos-containing materials (ACM’s), such as tradespeople, maintenance workers, and construction workers. This is a classroom-based course and will cover the topics in appropriate detail, through written and oral presentations and by demonstration as necessary. This course aims to provide anyone whose work could foreseeably expose them to asbestos with sufficient knowledge to avoid putting themselves or others at risk in line with regulatory requirements laid out in Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

What topics are covered?

The Level 2 Award in Asbestos Awareness covers topics such as the properties of asbestos, health risks associated with exposure, legislation and guidance relating to asbestos, and safe work practices when dealing with asbestos-containing materials.

The scope of this standard covers:

  • Understand the risks to health of asbestos
  • Know the causes of asbestos in the construction industry
  • Know the risks of exposure to asbestos and the methods for controlling that risk
  • Understand the legal duties and obligations of employers and building owners
  • Know how to act in an emergency and where to seek advice on asbestos risks

Grants & Funding For The Level 2 Award in Asbestos Awareness

CITB Achievement grant: £600 per person. This qualification is eligible for the CITB Short Qualification

, paid at achievement.

  • Directly employed staff on the payroll
  • sub-contractors (both net and gross-paid) and sole traders and partnerships
  • You can’t claim a short qualification grant for apprentices that you are receiving an attendance grant for

provided they are working at the time of the training for the employer making the application and that CITB grant support has not already been received for the particular training qualification.

*claimed as CITB short period qualification grant not affected by live skills and training fund applications

Surplus Grant To Retain

Delivered to groups of up to 15 – CITB Achievement grant: £600 per person.

For a group of 15 delegates the per person charge would be £300 per person so you retain the remainder achievement grant (£9,000 back from CITB to you, £4,500 charge from us, leaving you a surplus of £4,500 for a group of 15 – please note minimum number is 5).

How long does it take to complete this award?

Typically, the qualification takes around 3 to 4 hours to complete.

You can enroll minimum of 5 learners and maximum of 15 learners. Larger groups may be facilitated dependent on classroom size.

Candidates attending the course require a safe learning environment with suitable classroom facilities for training. For further clarification on this, please get in touch with us.

*We can go to you for training (if suitable facility) and we can deliver training on Saturdays (subject to availability).

What is the benefit to doing this L2 award if delegates hold a valid Asbestos Awareness certificate?

Alternative courses may not be grant-eligible (if taken online historically) or will have only a £60 grant compared to the £600 for the Level 2 Award in Asbestos Awareness.

In-person, recognised, and accredited training further enhances existing knowledge. The courses are interactive, candidates are physically present, and the training outcome is a regulated qualification
at the Level 2 standard. For larger workforces, it’s worth considering this training for all employees who are required to visit site as well as operatives, supervisors and managers to ensure a thorough understanding and to reduce the risk of potential asbestos exposure.
