About this course

This is a theory-based course that will cover the basic fundamental information for the safe use of abrasive wheels and will go through the inspection and mounting procedures for cutting and grinding discs appropriate to the client’s needs.

Client to specify and provide types of equipment and cutting/grinding wheels used were possible to ensure this will meet the specific needs of their employees, the client is therefore requested to provide relevant equipment used within the organisation so the training can be provided on the equipment used by their employees, this should include:

⦁ Abrasive wheels equipment – petrol cut of saws, grinders etc.
⦁ Flange spanners or service tools
⦁ Dust or water suppression kits (where applicable)
⦁ Cutting/grinding wheels

The Abrasive Wheels Theory Training is a classroom or remote course with group participation.

Who should attend Abrasive Wheels Theory Training?

This course is designed for people who may be required to select or mount an abrasive wheel and diamond wheels on a handheld portable abrasive wheel equipment such as petrol cut off saws, grinders, bench saws etc in the workplace or who needs familiarisation or refresher skills with the relevant regulations for the use of abrasive wheels.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to provide knowledge of the hazards and risks associated with the use of abrasive wheels and ensure they understand their responsibilities under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) in the safe mounting of abrasive wheels and discs on portable machinery and applying the skills to operate the equipment safely.

Identify the main types of abrasive wheels and their equipment and will understand the hazards and risks associated with them.
Identify hazards, risks, and controls associated with abrasive wheels
Identify markings and selection
Recognise how storing handling, and transporting of abrasive wheels should be carried out
Identify inspecting and testing of equipment
Identify components and functions
Understand assembling and mounting of wheels
Understand main abrasive wheels legislation
understanding cutting/grinding process

If refresher course standards do exist for a particular course, then only one refresher is grant eligible in a lifetime for each candidate.
