An overview of the SSSTS course

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for those who currently undertake or aspire to undertake the role of site supervisor within the construction sector. The supervisor’s role is an integral part of site safety so if you monitor the quality or progress of work, and allocate responsibilities and resources as part of your duties this course is for you.

Why do I need this?

The course will provide you with all relevant legislation and other aspects which affect safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures, and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce, by having the knowledge provided in this course it will assist you in meeting your legal responsibilities to keep you, your workforce and company on the right side of the law.

The SSSTS course is endorsed by Build UK and exceeds the standard set by CITB for construction supervisors’ training. 

The course aims:

Aims 

To help site supervisors to: 

  • supervise health and safety on site in accordance with current legal provisions and within the context of their role
  • develop an understanding of responsibility and accountability for site health, safety and welfare   on site
  • recognise that a safe site is efficient, economical, productive and environmentally friendly.

Where is this course held?

This course can be held in a classroom where we can offer dedicated courses to the organisation based at a venue of your choice or we have scheduled courses for individual bookings.

We also deliver these courses remotely via the Zoom iCloud meetings platform, no account is required to undertake this method of course delivery and assistance can be provided to support you with this, this is still an interactive way of learning the information necessary to support this role with one of our highly specialised tutors, again we can offer dedicated courses to the organisation based at a venue of your choice or we have scheduled courses for individual bookings.

How long does the SSSTS take to complete?

The course is held over 2 days (A total of 15 hours)

Will I be issued a certificate upon successful SSSTS completion?

Yes. On successful completion, the learner will receive an accredited digital CITB certificate. A proof of pass letter can be immediately provided if required upon receipt of the course results from the trainer.

How long is the SSSTS certificate valid?

The certificate is valid for 5 years. 

This course has a 1-day refresher course to retain your current certification. The refresher course is only for delegates who have previously passed the two-day Site supervision safety training scheme (SSSTS) course or subsequent refresher course and can provide proof of successful attendance.

Are there any entry requirements for SSSTS?

Delegates should hold, or be about to hold, the role of a supervisor. Delegates must be competent in English at the site supervisor level. 

Is there a CITB levy completion grant attached to this course?

Yes! There is a £70 grant attached to this course per delegate. As an ATO, we’d automatically claim this on your behalf.

What is the NVQ L3 Occupational Health and Safety Practice

The Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety practice has been designed for people who are responsible for health and safety in their workplace. This is for health and safety advisors and personnel who control, and monitor health and safety procedures within the organisation including risk assessments, site audits and incident investigations, this can assist you in achieving the CSCS Gold Card.

What is the NVQ L3 Occupational Work Supervision

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision has been designed for people who are undertaking the role of a supervisor within the construction sector and have the responsibilities for coordinating works, monitoring work progress and health and safety requirements of the project, this includes supervision of temporary works as well as the installation of permanent works in construction.

What is the NVQ L3 Demolition (Construction)

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Demolition (Construction) has been designed for those experienced in the demolition sector and covers the planning and implementation of safe working practices during demolition and dismantling works in alignment with current legislation such as the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, this qualification has 3 pathways to select from to ensure the NVQ meets your needs:

There are 3 Pathways: 

Pathway 1 – Demolition (Top Man) Operative

Pathway 2 – Demolition Chargehand

Pathway 3 – Demolition Plant

What is the NVQ L4 Construction Site Supervision Building – Demolition

The Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Supervision is aimed at those who supervise demolition activities including the planning of demolition activities, checking to monitor and allocating relevant work within this sector.

What is the NVQ L4 Construction Site Supervision (Construction) Building and Civil Engineering

The Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Supervision (Construction) Building and Civil Engineering is for those who work within the construction industry and supervise the planning of the works including the use of resources, coordinating the work processes, monitoring quality and progress against agreed standards, also supervising the Installation, Maintenance, Monitoring and Removal of Temporary Works in the Workplace. 

How is this NVQ delivered?

The Level 3 NVQs are completed by demonstrating your performance by providing documentary evidence of you carrying out the role for the respective qualification. You will be allocated an assessor who will help build your portfolio, giving you help and guidance throughout your assessment. We will assist you in choosing the correct qualification that meets your job role.

Is there a CITB levy completion grant attached to these NVQs?

Yes! There is a £600 grant attached to these NVQs. As a CITB Approved Training Organisation (ATO), we’d automatically claim this on your behalf.
