An Insight into TWCTC – CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Training Course

Who is this course for?

TWCTC has been designed to assist those within the construction industry responsible for managing all forms of temporary works, either as the main contractor or sub-contractor on a construction project. This includes but is not limited to, Scaffolds (Towers, System Scaffolds, Designed systems), Formwork, Falsework, excavation support, propping, façade retention and plant operations etc.

Why do I need this?

The course is supported by several organisations, including the Temporary Works Forum, CECA, Build UK, HSE and the Federation of Master Builders. Temporary Works are safety and business-critical and will require careful coordination to mitigate the risks faced within the construction sector, this course will provide the necessary knowledge to attendees on industry good practices for risk and safety management as outlined in BS 5975 (code of practice for temporary works and permissible stress design for falsework).

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the duties of the TWC and Other Roles:
    • Designated Individual (DI)
    • Permanent Works Designer (PWD)
    • Temporary Works Designer (TWD)
    • Temporary Works Designer Checker (TWDC)
    • Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS)
  • Have a detailed Knowledge and understanding of BS 5975 (Code of Practice for Temporary Works)
  • Understand how to manage risk
  • Implement the 4C’s effectively (Communication, Coordination, Cooperation and Competence)

Where is this course held?

This course can be held in a classroom where we can offer dedicated courses to the organisation based at a venue of your choice, or we have scheduled courses for individual bookings.

We also deliver these courses remotely via the Zoom iCloud meetings platform. No account is required to undertake this course delivery method, and assistance can be provided to support you. This is still an interactive way of learning the necessary information in order to support this role with one of our highly specialised tutors. We can offer dedicated courses to the organisation based at a venue of your choice, or we have scheduled courses for individual bookings.

How long does the Temporary Works Coordinator Training Course take to complete?

The course is held over two days (A total of 14 hours)

Will I be issued a certificate upon successful TWCTC completion?

Yes. On successful completion, the learner will receive an accredited digital CITB certificate. A proof of pass letter can be immediately provided if required upon receipt of the course results from the trainer.

How long is the TWCTC certificate valid?

The certificate is valid for 5 years. There is no refresher at this stage so you’re just required to retake the course. Although CITB is looking at providing a refresher course for TWCTC towards the end of 2022, we will keep you posted.

Are there any entry requirements for TWCTC?

There are no formal entry requirements. However, delegates should hold or are about to have the role of TWC.

Is there a CITB levy completion grant attached to this course?

Yes! There is a £70 grant attached to this course per delegate. As an ATO, we’d automatically claim this on your behalf.

Is there a progression for this course?

There are numerous progression courses that could be undertaken to assist you or your organisation with development within a management role and include:

What is the NVQ L6 Occupational Health and Safety Practice

The Level 6 NVQ Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety practice has been designed for people responsible for workplace health and safety. This is for health and safety professionals who produce and maintain health and safety management systems within the organisation, this can assist you in achieving grad IOSH membership and CSCS Black Card.

What is the NVQ L6 Construction Site Management

The Level 6 NVQ Certificate in Construction Site Management has been designed for people who are responsible for the day-to-day management of construction sites and implementing their organisational systems. This can boost their careers by becoming a Chartered Member (MCIOB) of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and also achieving the CSCS Black card. This qualification has 2 pathways,
which are:

  • Pathway 1: Building and Civil Engineering
  • Pathway 2: Demolition

What is the NVQ L6 Construction Contracting Operations Management

The Level 6 NVQ Certificate in Construction Contracting Operations Management has been designed for experienced managers in varying roles within the construction industry, which may not necessarily be site based, and this qualification has 5 pathways to meet your needs, This qualification can boost their careers by becoming a Chartered Member (MCIOB) of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and also achieve the CSCS Black card. The pathways include:

  • Pathway 1: Estimating
  • Pathway 2: Buying
  • Pathway 3: Planning
  • Pathway 4: Surveying
  • Pathway 5: General

What is the NVQ L6 Senior Site Inspection

The Level 6 NVQ Certificate in Senior Site Inspection is aimed at individuals working in a range of roles in construction and the built environment and is designed to assess occupational competence
in the workplace and monitoring project quality, this qualification can lead to a CSCS Black Card.

How is this NVQ delivered?

The Level 6 NVQ’s are completed by demonstrating your performance by providing documentary
evidence of you carrying out the role for the respective qualification. You will be allocated an
assessor who will help build your portfolio, giving you help and guidance throughout your
assessment. We will assist you in choosing the correct qualification that meets your job role.

Is there a CITB levy completion grant attached to these NVQ?

Yes! There is a £600 grant attached to this NVQ. As a CITB Approved Training Organisation (ATO), we’d automatically claim this on your behalf. We will need you to sign a 3 rd party consent form so we can act on your behalf.
